STEPPING UP

Stepping up
grey steps
trod on by long
skirted
ladies
lifting their hems
up against the dust.
Red steps
trod on by town selectmen
briefcases
in hand
projects in mind.
Brown steps
danced on by
long
haired
hippy type
youth
flowers
in hand
and love in their hearts.
Grey steps
now sat on by
homeless
their unwashed bodies
and unused dreams
staying in the  now.

  1. Steps to somewhere, steps to nowhere. Someone's been there before you. Someone will come after. Step up, step down, step over and step around. Just keep stepping. Lovely piece. Have you consideed joining Poetry Monday?

My problem is that I can't think like this all the time. :)

    2. But when you do, it's a beauty I find the more I focus on writing the faster the words come...that said...Monday is on the way and currently 'I got nothin'.

  2. Some are moving up and others are now resting waiting for their time. Nicely done!

  5. Wonderful poem, Mage! I've never thought of putting artwork below the handrails. What an interesting, fun idea.
