A GIRL ON THE BEACH

1982: Girl on the Beach, black and white.

In the late 1970’s and 80’s, I drew on the beach almost every day.  I would take my hangover and my journal to the beach to write and sketch.  Often my friends Frankie and Connie Anderson would join me.  This is one of the most charming pictures I drew out there on the sand….in the original.

For the internet and cell phone, color matters.  The brown image vanishes, fades away, while the black and white one show clearly and crisply.  When I see the brown girl, I smile.  I like the gentleness of the image.

Bobbie came yesterday to arrange boxes for her new scrolls that will be going in a show in New York.  She and George talked packaging for quite a while then she looked at the quilt.  She liked it, and I am very pleased.

Her companion, Geoff, is also being very creative.  They are making a documentary of both he and his brother’s lives in Scientology.  The were two of the original members of the band “People,” and at the end the film will include the reunion of the band just this year.

1982: Original, brown ink. Girl on the beach.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

  • Himself:  He has some grand plans for scroll boxes.
  • Myself:  Losing more and more words.  I asked G not to tell me unless I asked, and he has been very good about it.  Brunch and dinner out yesterday.  I am feeling deficient in homemaking 101.
  • Reading:  Michael Palin: Around the World in 80 Days..
  • Gratitude’s:  Purely selfishly, that Bobbie loves her new quilt and says she is going to show it.

  3. Goodness...at first I thought how wonderful the black and white sketch were and then I saw the brown and now I'm not sure which one is my favorite. Perhaps they're equal in my eye??? LOL Sorry about your word loss. I have that problem as well, but not as bad as Robert. I don't cook as much as I used to, but when I do, I make something that will last for a couple of meals. And I don't fix nearly as many things with the main dish as I used to. I used to feel it had to be meat, 2 veggies, a salad and some sort of bread. We had way too much food on our plates. Now, we're just not interested in all those side dishes and my cooking skills aren't what they used to be.

    1. I do an entre of some sort, maybe even frozen, and a salad or veggie. We had cake too last night. Oh, guilt. LOL

  4. A couple more comments -- are we going to get to see that quilt? And I've said it before, but I love the way you use straight lines in your drawings to define shades/movement. In awe of your talent... Hugs and love, T

  5. Art is important, home making isn't all it's cracked up to be.

  6. The brown seems a bit more mellow but love them both. You did those hung over?? I can't remember doing anything hung over but moan.

  7. The brown, surprisingly, Is appealing to me — emits a warm feeling. Perhaps — if you haven’t already — you’ve searched Word Finding Compensatory Strategies and found some that help you. Often different strategies for different words work best. Also, some strategies work better for some people than others — experiment.

    1. I like the softness of the brown. It seems more welcoming.
