BITS AND PIECES

After two days of struggle, I started all over again.

Was the needle in correctly?  No.  Turn the machine upside down and see if you can tell in what direction the needle should go.  Find the book and see what it says.  Rediscover how many thumbs you really have.  G eventually puts the needle in the machine.

While I am on the needle page, I notice a paragraph about dropping the feet.  Have I done this?  No.  So I drop the feet.

Are you using the correct foot?  Yes, I am using the embroidery foot.

Thread?  I am very aware that I am using gold thread on the top and navy blue in the bobbin.  I was told at the shop that the gold thread breaks.  Often.  And it does.  The slower I go, the less it breaks.

The end result was that I finished one row of crows sitting on a branch.  Lots of leaves.  Several butterflies, and one or two worms.

  1. Oh gosh! I thought at first you were talking about some needle into your arm or something. I’m glad it was your sewing machine.

  2. I first thought the same thing as Kay and was relieved that you were talking about the sewing machine. :)

About those bricks in the stone building in my post , I guess they wanted to fill in the hole where the windows were. The building is used to keep equipment in there.

  3. Admire you tackling your sewing machine. Pretty sure mine would win the battle if I tried.

  4. I look forward to seeing this quilt. It sounds very detailed.

  5. When I had to tackle sewing machines alone I learned this: the thread follows the groove. So, if your machine threads from the side, that is where the groove goes. If your machine threads from the front, that's where the groove goes.
I thought from your thumbnail this was about elephants.

  6. I am so glad you fought through the brain fog and figured it out.

  7. I do not sew much anymore. I used to make shirts for hubby, dresses for my daughter, stuff for me. It is hard to get back into it. I have a very simple project (making a window valance!) and have put it off for decades. Keep patient with yourself, allow yourself time. You obviously love it.

    1. I do not love it, but I love the colorful end result. Usually it takes me 2 or more years to do a quilt. I'm not dedicated like my friend Tehachap is, but I get it done in the end.

  8. Good for you. My sewing machine bested me and I gave it to my Grandgirl. I've caught myself looking at those inexpensive Singers for beginners though so who knows. Maybe I'll give the simple stuff another go.

    1. The one I use now is simple, it's my brain. Darn it.
