I’m slow today. I got all of me done, but slowly. Meds taken, drops in eyes, legs on, clothing on, and even a bit of book read too by 1030. Normally I am in here by nine.
That was George’s grandmother rocker. When she was a child, she wasn’t well. The family put this rocker in their Conestoga wagon so she would be comfortable coming to Colorado. She was a strongly opinionated lady. She married a WWI German prisoner of war, and at the end could be found protesting stroke therapy. The rocker rocked long and hard over the years until now those rockers are flat. In the 90’s, we devalued it tremendously by thinning the coat of bubbly, black varnish. Even so, it’s now a cherished member of our family.
Today the Christmas Cat is lurking on top of the grandfather clock. I truly enjoy seeing him peeking out from the fascia at the holiday things.
- Himself: Needs two small fillings and one crown….Thursday.
- Myself: Called those folks that sent me that sent the “Guided Conversation“ letter. Yes I have those things all done (it’s just outdated.)
- Reading: A lovely letter and card from Carol and Robert. Carol who had such trouble printing things.
- Watching: My usual Monday Antiques Roadshow.
- Weather: In the 40’s and rainy. So delightful to hear rain on the roof.
- Photo: Mine. 2017
- Gratitude’s: For the rain.
Is it not lovely that we value such odd and important things? What is valuable at our age is the memories that the item brings back or if it is a new item, the way it helps us manage our day. Hubby is having lots of expensive dental work down and our insurance will not cover it. IM me your dental insurance company. I have been inconsistent with my exercise but my joints are protesting with pain...probably the beginning of arthritis.
ReplyDeleteI am not pleased about having to get a new crown. The old one did last 26 years.
ReplyDeleteThe queen of our current country does not believe in new crowns either. I am hopeful that someday I will live in a country without kings or queens.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you could flatten a rocker! Guess I have a few more miles on my grandma's rocker. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteThat rocker has seen many miles to have flattened the rockers. I guess everything wears out eventually, even us. It is the perfect spot for that cool cat though.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be slow today--woke far too early and no longer sleepy. Naps will be the order of the day today! Stay warm and have a good day! Love you...
ReplyDeleteWhen your blog came on screen, I thought the cat was real!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very nice rocker with treasured memories!
ReplyDeleteI'm moving slow today. That's a very nice rocker. I think I'd rather have a nice finish on it than an ugly cracked black one.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful rocker, Mage. I don't quite understand what you mean by the rockers being flat though.
