DAVID

George has decreed that we do only one thing a day.  Today we rolled through the Carmel family.  Three years of Covid news and Christmas cards.  David is twice as wide as usual, and Mariah is engaged.   There’s nothing we can do except give all those folks hugs.

We have acquired a hospice nurse.   I like her.  She has a good laugh.  As things grow worse, the Hospice folks will be adding more staff.  They ask if we would like a minister.  Repeatedly.  G answers back that we have 38 years in a spiritual program.  I need to send this off to my sponsor.   I’ll feel more in touch with any program if I do.

  1. A very good friend of mine volunteered with one of the hospital hospices here in Fresno and loved everything about it. As she came to the end, she too had hospice care from those same people. It was all a very special blessing. May your hospice people be wonderful and give you care and joy. And hopefully make you laugh along the way.

  2. I hope the hospice nurse is helpful, caring and has a good sense of humour, Mage.

  3. I wonder if a hospice-supplied minister could provide an additional perspective that your sponsor doesn't have the knowledge or experience for.

  4. Your hospice has a whole team of folks to come see you. Per the benefit, some are supposed to come see you within the first week of signing up. Their Social Worker and Minister are such folks, and can maybe provide resources for you that you didn't know you could have. Some hospice agencies even arrange for a photo / history book of your life, or for a special day out to do something you really like, by providing all of the drivers, vans, food, arrangements. Check out everyone, and accept all the help they provide. It makes your life and your family's life much nicer. Some of my patients were shy to have bath aides, until they realized how nice it was to not have to worry about such things, or falling in the process. Some supplies are provided too. Your complete team can help you the best. (I used to previously do RN hospice care. Loved it.) Linda in Kansas

    1. Thank you for this. I did not know this and I was a Hospice volunteer in San Diego (in another lifetime).

  7. I am just happy that you are in such good care. I have never met a hospice worker who wasn't amazing and caring. They have a lot of services, check them out.

  8. One thing a day is good. I subscribe to that mantra quite often. LOL It works and gives us a feeling of control of our lives, even when we have none. Love you...
